Cognitive Behavioural Therapy: Depression

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) for depression integrates cognitive and behavioral techniques. Two main strands, rooted in Beck's and Ellis's theories, guide the therapy. After an initial assessment, patients and therapists collaboratively identify problems, set goals, and devise action plans. Beck's cognitive therapy targets negative thoughts using his negative triad, while Ellis's Rational-Emotive Behaviour Therapy (REBT) utilizes techniques like empirical and logical arguments. Patients challenge and test irrational thoughts, often with assigned homework.
