Atypical Gender Development
"Atypical" means something that is not usual or normal. So, "atypical gender development" refers to a person's gender not developing in the usual way. This can happen because of unusual chromosomes or hormone exposure in the womb, leading to a mismatch between gender identity and biological sex. Such situations are called intersex conditions. The term "atypical" is also used for people with gender identity disorder (GID), a psychiatric condition where someone feels uneasy with the gender assigned to them at birth. Nowadays, GID is referred to as gender dysphoria.
