Aims of Custodial Sentencing
The objectives of custodial sentencing encompass various reasons or rationales for its application. There are four primary aims: incapacitation, which seeks to safeguard others; rehabilitation, involving educational and treatment programs to modify offender behavior; retribution, intended to demonstrate that the offender has faced consequences for their actions to both society and the victim's family; and deterrence, aiming to prevent re-offending and illustrate the repercussions of similar actions to society.
