Pushchair vs Pram: Which One is Best for You?

pushchair vs pram

If you're pregnant and have to choose between a pushchair and a pram, which one should you get? Another thing to consider is whether you have multiple children. If you do, you might want to get a double pushchair or a pram.

Both have their pros and cons, but which one is right for you? In this blog post, we will discuss the differences between pushchairs and prams so that you can make the best decision for your needs.

Why do you need to know what the difference is between a pram and a pushchair?

Well, if you're going to be a parent, then it's important to have the right equipment for your baby. After all, you want to make sure that your little one is comfortable and safe when you're out and about.

When I had my first son, I didn't really know the difference between a pushchair and a pram. I just went to the store and bought the one that looked the best. However, after using it for a while, I realized that it wasn't really the right choice for me. The pushchair was too big and bulky and it was really difficult to push around. On the other hand, the pram was too small and my son always seemed to be uncomfortable in it.

In the end, I decided to get a pushchair with a detachable car seat. This way, I could use the pushchair for everyday outings and then put my son in the car seat when we needed to go somewhere further. This was the best solution for me and my son and we were both much happier with it.

If you're still not sure which one is right for you, then consider the following factors:

-The size of your baby: If you have a small baby, then a pram might be the better option. On the other hand, if you have a larger baby, then a pushchair might be more comfortable. This is because pushchairs tend to have more room for your baby to grow.

I made the mistake when my first son was born of getting a baby sling as well. As he was such a big baby , it really wasn't very comfortable for either of us. I would definitely recommend getting a pushchair instead if you have a larger baby.

-How often you'll be using it: If you're only going to be using the pushchair or pram occasionally, then either one will be fine. However, if you're going to be using it on a daily basis, then you might want to choose the one that's more comfortable for you. I honestly can say that I did not use my pram often because I drove everywhere and found that just having a car seat was more convenient. However, it is not advisable to keep babies in car seats for too long because it can be bad for their spine so a pushchair is probably the better choice if you're going to be using it daily

-Your budget: Pushchairs and prams can range in price from a few hundred dollars or pounds if you are in the UK to several thousand dollars/pounds. Choose the one that fits your budget and needs. Some colleagues I have worked with had said they paid thousands on a pram simple because it was a designer name. If you are looking for something more affordable, there are plenty of great options out there that will do the job just as well. Now, I am not about designer names or anything but just remember you do not have to spend a lot of money on something just because it has a designer name. The cheaper options these days are just as good.

-What features you need: Both pushchairs and prams come with a variety of features, such as storage baskets, rain covers, sun canopies, etc. Decide which features are most important to you and choose the one that has them. I personally never used any of the extras that came with my pram because I found them to be unnecessary. However, some people might find them useful, so it really depends on your needs. However, I did regret not buying the rain cover when out for a walk one day and me and baby ended up drenched. Speaking of rain covers, you do not have to purchase the ones specifically for the pram or pushchair you buy as there are generic ones (universal) that you can buy which work just as well and are a lot cheaper.

-Your lifestyle: If you live in the city, then you might want to get a smaller pushchair that's easy to maneuver around tight corners. On the other hand, if you live in the suburbs or countryside, then a larger pushchair might be better for you as it can handle rougher terrain. I personally live in the city and found that a smaller pushchair was much easier to get around with. Also, as the city is generally more busier especially on the buses and trains, a smaller pushchair is much easier to get on and off with.

Are prams, pushchairs even worth it?

This is a difficult question to answer, as it really depends on your individual circumstances. If you're going to be using the pram or pushchair on a daily basis, then it's definitely worth investing in a good quality one. However, if you're only going to be using it occasionally, then you might be able to get away with a cheaper option.

At the end of the day, it's important to choose the right pushchair or pram for you and your baby. Consider all of the factors that we've discussed and make sure to test out a few different options before making your final decision. With a little bit of research, you'll be able to find the perfect pushchair or pram for your needs.

Hopefully, this blog post has helped you to understand the difference between pushchairs and prams. Choose the one that's right for you and your baby and you'll be sure to have a happy and comfortable journey together.

What is a pram?

A pram is a type of baby carriage that is designed for infants. They are usually made out of cloth or metal and have a bassinet or carrycot in which the baby can lie down. Prams are great for newborns because they provide them with a comfortable place to sleep while you're on the go.

Newborns spend the majority of their time sleeping, so a pram is essential if you want to be able to take your baby out and about with you. Prams are also convenient because they can be used as a bed for your baby when you're not using them.

Key benefits

- They are comfortable for newborns.

This is because prams have a bassinet or carrycot in which the baby can lie down.

- Prams can be used for short walks.

This is because they are not as bulky as pushchairs and are easier to manoeuvre.

Which brand is best for a pram?

There are many different types and brands of prams available on the market. It is important to do your research to find the best one for you and your baby. Some factors you may want to consider include:

- The size of your baby

- How often you will be using the pram

- Your budget

Some popular brands of prams include:

- Bugaboo

This is by far one of the most popular brands of prams. They offer a wide range of high-quality products that are perfect for both everyday use and special occasions.

- Silver Cross

This is another popular brand of prams. They offer a wide range of products, including traditional and modern designs.

- iCandy

This is a high-end brand of prams that offers a luxurious experience.

- My Babiie

This is a affordable brand of prams that offers a wide range of products.

Remember, you do not have to stick to designer brands because they are popular. I have used previously a brand called 'Joie'. Even though it was not as popular, I found it to be just as good, if not better than the other brands. It really depends on your individual needs and preferences.

The good thing though about buying designer prams or pushchairs is that they often hold their value really well. So, if you decide to sell it on later, you will usually be able to get a good portion of your money back. A few friends of mine have done just this and have placed on sites such as eBay and Gumtree. There are always people on these sites looking for good quality, used prams and pushchairs. Therefore another idea especially if you are on a budget is to buy second hand. Just make sure that you give it a good clean before using it!

After my first baby. I made the choice to purchase many of my baby items second hand. This was because I knew that I would only be using them for a short period of time and I did not want to spend a lot of money on something that was going to sit in the cupboard gathering dust after a few months. So, if you are on a budget, this is definitely something worth considering.

Another reason was because I was over the first mother excitement and realised that all babies really need are warmth and love and that material things really do not matter that much in the grand scheme of things.

If you are forking out for a really expensive pram, pause and ask yourself, why? Is it because all your friends have one and you feel like you need to keep up with the Joneses? Or is it because you genuinely believe that it will be the best thing for your baby? If it's the latter, then go ahead and make the purchase. But, if it's the former, maybe reconsider and save your money for something else. Believe me, as babies get bigger you will need the money for other things!

One final thought on the matter, is that you may not even need a pram or pushchair at all. If you are able to carry your baby around in a sling or wrap, then this could be a more convenient and cheaper option for you. It really depends on your individual circumstances. As mentioned before, the sling did not work on my first or even my second son as they were too big. However, by the time I had my third son me and slings were best friends ! I carried my third son everywhere with it and find it so comfortable and handy as my hands were always free.

What is a pushchair?

A pushchair, on the other hand, is designed for older babies and toddlers. They are lighter and easier to push than prams, but they don't have a bassinet or carrycot. This means that your child will have to sit up in the pushchair, which may not be ideal if they are very young or if they fall asleep often. However, pushchairs are much easier to fold up and transport, so they can be a great option for parents who are always on the go. For example, if you're going to be taking public transport with your child, a pushchair will be much easier to carry than a pram.

Should a pushchair have 3 or 4 wheels?

This is a matter of personal preference. Some people find that three-wheeled pushchairs are easier to manoeuvre, while others prefer four-wheeled pushchairs because they provide more stability. I actually loved the 3 wheeled pushchairs because I felt like I had more control over them.

So, which one is right for you? It really depends on your lifestyle and needs. If you're someone who is always on the go, a pushchair might be a better option for you. However, if you want to be able to take your baby out for long walks or use public transport often, a pram might be a better choice. Ultimately, it's up to you to decide which one is right for you and your family.

What is a pushchair travel system?

A pushchair travel system is a type of pushchair that can be used with a car seat. This is a great option for parents who want the convenience of being able to use their pushchair and car seat with one another. Some travel systems even come with a base that can be installed in your car, so you don't have to take the car seat in and out all the time.

What are the benefits of a pushchair travel system?

- You can use the pushchair and car seat with one another, which is very convenient.

- Some travel systems come with a base that can be installed in your car, so you don't have to take the car seat in and out all the time.

- Pushchair travel systems are usually very lightweight and easy to manoeuvre.

What are the disadvantages of a pushchair travel system?

- They can be more expensive than other types of pushchairs.

- They can be difficult to transport if you don't have a car with a lot of space.

What about a pushchair vs buggy?

A buggy is a type of stroller that is designed for toddlers. They are usually lighter and smaller than pushchairs, making them easier to manoeuvre. However, they don't have the same features as pushchairs, so they might not be suitable for all families. It's important to consider your needs before deciding whether a buggy or a pushchair is right for you.

Some key benefits of a buggy include:

- They are lighter and smaller than pushchairs, making them easier to manoeuvre.

- They are cheaper than pushchairs.

- They can be a good option for families who are always on the go.

Some key benefits of a pushchair include:

- They have more features than buggies, making them more comfortable for babies and toddlers.

- They can be used for longer walks and journeys.

- They are sturdier than buggies, so they can handle rougher terrain.

So, there you have it! A pushchair vs pram debate. I hope this has helped you to decide which one is right for you and your family. Remember not to be sucked in with what everyone else is doing or buying. Remember, you are not in a competition with anyone , only you know what is right for you and your family. What works for one person, may not work for another. So, do what is best for you and enjoy this wonderful time with your little one. Pushchairs and prams are both great options, so it really comes down to personal preference in the end. Thanks for reading! :)
