ADDITION & SUBTRACTION WITH PICTURES
Early Maths Printable Worksheets | Numbers to 10
Make early maths easier to understand with colourful, child-friendly visual learning!
Addition & Subtraction with Pictures is a printable early maths workbook designed to help young learners build confidence with counting, quantities and simple mathematical operations through pictures.
Instead of introducing maths only through abstract numbers, the activities encourage children to look carefully at familiar objects, count them and work out their answers visually.
Milcho & Sherri accompany children throughout the workbook, making maths practice feel friendly, playful and approachable.

COUNT THE FRUITS
The first activity section helps children practise counting groups of familiar fruits.
Children look carefully at each group, count the pictures and write the correct number in the answer box.
The activities gradually introduce larger groups, giving young learners repeated counting practice while helping them connect a visible quantity with its numerical value.
COUNT AND ADD
Once children have practised counting individual groups, the workbook moves into simple visual addition.
Children are shown two groups of objects separated by an addition symbol.
They count each group, combine the quantities and write the total in the answer box.
The worksheets use a variety of familiar pictures and objects, helping children understand that addition means combining quantities rather than simply memorising number facts.
VISUAL LEARNING
Picture-based maths can be particularly helpful for young learners who are beginning to understand numbers and mathematical operations.
The visual approach allows children to see the quantities in front of them, count each object and then work towards the answer.
This provides a gentle bridge between concrete counting and more abstract written maths.
NUMBERS UP TO 10
The activities focus on early maths practice with numbers and quantities up to 10, making the resource suitable for children who are developing foundational numeracy skills.
SKILLS CHILDREN CAN DEVELOP
Through the activities, children can practise:
• Early numeracy
• Counting accuracy
• Quantity recognition
• Addition concepts
• Subtraction concepts
• Number sense
• Visual discrimination
• Observation
• Concentration
• Logical thinking
• Early problem-solving
• Hand-eye coordination
• Pencil control
• Writing answers independently
• Confidence with early maths
LEARNING THROUGH PICTURES
The workbook uses familiar visual objects such as:
• Fruits
• Vegetables
• Sweets
• Ice creams
• Balloons
• Pencils
• Spoons
• Forks
• Brooms
• And other easy-to-recognise pictures
Using familiar objects helps make early maths more concrete and accessible for young children.
Children are encouraged to look, count, think and then record their answer.

WHY PICTURE-BASED MATHS?
For young learners, pictures provide a simple and accessible way to explore mathematical ideas.
Rather than seeing only an equation, children can physically count the objects shown on the page.
This encourages them to understand the relationship between quantities and mathematical operations while building confidence before progressing to more abstract number work.
A FLEXIBLE EARLY MATHS RESOURCE
Use the complete workbook as a short maths unit or print individual worksheets whenever extra counting or addition practice is needed.
The simple activity format also makes the pages useful for repeated skills practice throughout the Early Years.
