Informational social influence occurs when an individual conforms because they believe others have the correct information or know better than they do. This is a cognitive process that typically happens in ambiguous or uncertain situations where the individual lacks confidence in their own knowledge. For example, a person might copy someone else’s behaviour when they are unsure of the correct way to act.
