KIM KARDASHIAN BREAKS SILENCE ON BALENCIAGA SCANDAL
Kim Kardashian has finally spoken out about the Balenciaga scandal, which involved kids wearing BDSM-themed accessories.
The A-lister, who has worked with the fashion house for years, released a statement on Sunday in response to the ongoing backlash against both Balenciaga and the fact that she hasn't spoken out yet, even though fans have been asking her to do so.
Kim says, "I have been quiet for the past few days, not because I haven't been shocked and outraged by the recent Balenciaga campaigns, but because I wanted to talk to their team to find out how this could have happened."
She goes on, "As a mother of four, those scary pictures have made me feel sick. The safety of children is the most important thing, and anything that goes against that has no place in our society."
Kim ends by saying, "I'm glad that Balenciaga took down the ads and said sorry. After talking with them, I think they understand how important the problem is and will do what needs to be done to make sure it doesn't happen again."
Now, she doesn't say why Balenciaga told her to explain it this way. In public, they've basically pleaded ignorance and blamed everything on the set designer and production company in charge of the campaign, even going so far as to sue both parties for $25 million this weekend.
People were outraged that little girls were made to pose in racy ways with teddy bears wearing leather outfits inspired by The Matrix and other BDSM toys. Not only that, but there were also court documents in the background that talked about a well-known child porn case.
The photographer who took the picture said he didn't have any say over the set pieces and was just doing what he was told. Balenciaga has said that they didn't know the items were set up the way they were, but many people have said that's not true, especially since this went live.
Even though a lot of regular people were upset, which is why the ad was taken down, most high-profile celebrities haven't said anything about it. This includes celebrities who are close with Balenciaga, with Kim being at the top of the list. Many people thought that this would make celebrities stop working with Balenciaga, but Kim doesn't seem to be one of them.
